‘Solutions to Counter Hate' seminar held at the Muslim Council of Elders stand at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair

The Muslim Council of Elders has hosted a seminar at its participating stand at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair titled ‘Solutions to Counter Hate’ featuring Dr. Mohammad Al-Ali, Founder and CEO of TRENDS Research & Advisory Center and Khalifa Khalid, General Secretary of the Emirates Students Association and member of the Emerging Peacemakers Forum.

During the seminar, Dr. Al-Ali said, “Hate speech threatens to fulfill the theory of the “clash of civilizations” and therefore must be stopped at all costs. Hate speech must be regulated through social media while we also work towards a rational counter to this phenomena which ideally should promote tolerance and the acceptance of others. Religious and cultural institutions have a great role to play in disseminating hate speech and extremism as well as spreading, tolerance, dialogue and human fraternity as an alternative”.

For his part, Khalifa Khalid said, “It is critical that we all unite to counter hate speech and racism. Likewise, the responsibility of doing so falls on institutions to go with combating negative practices and instilling the values coexistence, peace and fraternity.”

The Muslim Council of Elders is taking part at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which runs from 23 to 29 May 2022, with an extensive number of exhibited publications as well as various seminars and discussions at its participating stand.
