Secretary General of Muslim Council of Elders commends the naming of 2019 as ‘Year of Tolerance’

The Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Elder Dr Sultan Al Remeithi has offered his sincere gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates for declaring 2019 as the ‘Year of Tolerance’, which will encompass the nation’s initiatives for the coming year.

Dr Al Remeithi said, “Tolerance is the basis on which the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his fellow founders established the union which in turn became a beacon of hope and progress among nations.”

The Secretary General added, “The naming of the coming year as the ‘Year of Tolerance’ reiterates the UAE leadership’s eagerness to continue in the path of the nation’s founders. It also reflects their willingness to institute a global model of acceptance and diversity which has long been advocated by Islamic civilisation while also maintaining the framework of various international covenants.”

The Muslim Council of Elders, under the Chairmanship of His Eminence Dr Ahmed El Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif is based in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi and works to renounce violence, hatred and extremism by spreading the values of tolerance. It also endeavours to promote the notion of citizenship as well as a civilised cooperation through dialogue which will bring about security and peace for humankind.
