World Humanitarian Day

Islam urges people to conduct humanitarian work and to show solidarity with others. In fact, the Holy Quran and the sunnah reaffirm this through the following verses and hadith. As stated in the Holy Quran; “And do good that you may be successful” [Al Hajj : 77]as well as “No good is there in much of their private conversation, except for those who enjoin charity or that which is right or conciliation between people. And whoever does that seeking means to the approval of Allah - then We are going to give him a great reward.” [An-Nisa : 114]. Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) also said, “If anyone fulfills his brother's needs, Allah will fulfill his needs”, narrated by Bukhari and Muslim.

The Muslim Council of Elders is working towards implementing these noble values between people from different backgrounds. This in turn was the inspiration behind the 2019 ‘Document on Human Fraternity’ which was co-signed by His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Council and His Holiness Pope Francis, Pontiff of the Catholic Church under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates.

The Document calls on all humans to be mindful and helpful of one another. This especially applies to the needy, disadvantaged, refugees, victims of war and all those who have suffered from any form of discrimination.
