The Secretary-General General of the Muslim Council of Elders Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam has met the President of East Timor and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Jose Ramos-Horta on the back of the latter's participation at the UN General Assembly.

President Ramos-Horta expressed his appreciation of the efforts of the United Arab Emirates in promoting peace, tolerance and coexistence globally. He emphasized his nation's commitment to human fraternity since it is institutionally believed that such a value plays an important role in helping nation states evolve and prosper.

For his part, Judge Abdelsalam revealed that East Timor's adoption of the Document on Human Fraternity as a national charter in May was a major source of inspiration for all lovers of coexistence and peace. He added that the Muslim Council of Elders deeply appreciates this move, as it supports dialogue and understanding between people, regardless of their differences. He concluded by declaring that the Council will continue to work with Timor-Leste to further enhance these noble values.
