The Grand Imam: New Zealand and Sri Lanka terror attacks are part of a plan to ignite interreligious war

His Eminence Dr Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders has visited Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral to congratulate Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark on the occasion of Easter.

During the meeting, His Eminence reaffirmed, “Humanity is in the midst of a treacherous plan whish aims to ignite interreligious war, which is what we saw in the aftermath of the recent terrorist attacks on Muslim and Christian worshippers in New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Islam and Christianity in their essence are proponents of peace and love and can never be used as justifications for murder and terrorism.”

The Grand Imam continued, “It is the responsibility of religious leaders to counter the current painful reality we are going through and that can only be done through a deep understanding of religion and by correctly interpreting misunderstood religious teachings.”

For his part, Pope Tawadros II thanked the Grand Imam for his kind wishes which no doubt increase harmony and love between followers of different religions.
