The Muslim Council of Elders, under the chairmanship of the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, strongly condemns the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli government officials, members of the Israeli Knesset, and extremist settlers which took place under the protection of the Israeli police as part of the so-called Flag March.

The Council reaffirms its rejection of such repeated provocative violations and attempts to divide the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. It calls for efforts to be exerted towards finding just solutions to the Palestinian issue as well as supporting the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
