His Eminence Dr Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders has today hosted a delegation from the Egyptian Council of Churches, led by Father Rafic Greiche.
During the meeting, His Eminence said, "Humanity is continuing to sink into more wars and bloodshed, an unfortunate result of global conflicts. Religious leaders hold a great responsibility to their people and Lord to help save humanity from destruction."
The Grand Imam added, "The Human Fraternity Document, which I personally signed along with my dear friend Pope Francis in February of this year in Abu Dhabi has exhibited to the world a rare precedent of coexistence between all peoples, regardless of gender, colour or belief. It is with the utmost importance that we look to activate the many points within the Human Fraternity Document across Egypt and within the youth to maintain our noble national identity."
For their part, members of the delegation from the Egyptian Council of Churches expressed their pleasure at meeting the Grand Imam who they regard as a national icon for all Egyptians. The delegation also expressed their willingness to cooperate on spreading the values of the Human Fraternity Document.
