His Eminence Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders has, for the first time in history, spoken to Vatican News about a number of contemporary issues.

The interview discussed a number of prominent topics, namely Al-Azhar's relation with the Catholic Church and the ongoing dialogue between the two institutions as well as women's rights within Islam.
