The Muslim Council of Elders’ stand at the International Publishing and Book Fair in Rabat in 2023 hosted a seminar titled ‘Conflict and Strife in the Muslim World and Prospects for Islamic Dialogue’ which was presented by Dr. Elias Belka, professor at Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fez.
The seminar addressed various important issues related to contemporary conflicts and disputes faced by Muslim communities, as well as the causes and factors contributing to their escalation. It also emphasized the significance of exploring the potential of Islamic dialogue as a means of reconciliation and understanding among different parties and as a fundamental tool for achieving peace and stability in Muslim societies.
Dr. Elias Belka emphasized the necessity of promoting dialogue and mutual respect among all members of society while stressing the importance of wisdom and dialogue in addressing these conflicts and seeking comprehensive solutions. He also highlighted that the Islamic world needs a cognitive revolution to understand the reasons behind disagreements and conflicts and work towards achieving coexistence and social harmony.
The professor at Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fez praised the efforts of the Muslim Council of Elders in promoting dialogue and cooperation as well as providing an appropriate space for reflection and searching for new solutions. He expressed his appreciation for the invitation extended by His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, during his speech at the conclusion of the Bahrain Dialogue Forum in November 2022 which called for strengthening Islamic dialogue in order to establish unity, convergence, mutual recognition, and the unity of the Muslim world.
The Muslim Council of Elders' stand at the International Publishing and Book Fair in Rabat witnessed significant interest from researchers, intellectuals, and media professionals who were eager to learn about the council's efforts and activities in promoting the values of dialogue, tolerance, and coexistence. It is also set to host several seminars and activities aimed at rectifying misconceptions, promoting dialogue and tolerance, and building bridges of communication and coexistence. These efforts align with the Council's message, under the Chairmanship of His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, which aims to enhance peace in Muslim and non-Muslim societies.
