Muslim Council of Elders Commends UN General Assembly's Unanimous Adoption of Resolution to Promote Interreligious Dialogue and Combat Hate Speech

Muslim Council of Elders Commends UN General Assembly's Unanimous Adoption of Resolution to Promote Interreligious Dialogue and Combat Hate Speech

The Muslim Council of Elders, under the chairmanship of His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, commends the United Nations General Assembly for unanimously adopting a resolution presented by the Kingdom of Morocco aimed at promoting interfaith and intercultural dialogue and fostering tolerance by countering hate speech.

The Council emphasizes that the resolution strongly condemns all acts of violence against individuals based on their religion or beliefs, as well as any actions targeting religious symbols, sacred books, homes, businesses, properties, schools, cultural centers, or places of worship. It also denounces all attacks on religious sites, locations, and shrines, noting that such actions constitute a violation of international law. The resolution also represents a step in the right direction to confront campaigns of hatred and bigotry against religious sanctities.

The Muslim Council of Elders also expresses its appreciation for the efforts made by the Kingdom of Morocco in promoting dialogue and coexistence, as well as renouncing extremist, hateful, biased, and discriminatory rhetoric. The Council hopes that this resolution will contribute to putting an end to the repeated violations against the Holy Quran under the pretext of freedom of opinion and expression, which reflects a despicable and aggressive behavior as well as blind prejudice that contradicts human rights and all humanitarian norms and conventions.
