On the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism Muslim Council of Elders: Religions have never been a source of terrorism; instead, they promote peace and coexistence Muslim Council of Elders: Commemorating the Victims of Terrorism and Providing Necessary Support to Those Affected Is an Ethical and Humanitarian Responsibility The Muslim Council of Elders, under the Chairmanship of His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, affirms that religions have never been a source of war, conflict, or terrorism; instead, they promote peace, love, and coexistence. In a statement on the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, observed by the United Nations on August 21 of each year, the Council emphasizes that providing psychological, medical, material, and moral support to heal the wounds of survivors of terrorist attacks and those who have lost loved ones to brutal terrorism is an ethical and humanitarian responsibility. Under the chairmanship of His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, the Muslim Council of Elders is dedicated to rectifying misconceptions and combating terrorism through ideology as well as raising awareness of the dangers posed by extremist ideologies which are promoted by terrorist groups in order to protect youth from falling into their traps. The Council also honors the victims of terrorism and strongly encourages support for their families. The Council also commends the significant role played by Al-Azhar in countering extremist ideologies through the Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism, which actively works to counter extremist ideologies that are propagated by violent and terrorist groups. Such groups attempt to distort certain religious texts and entice young people through their ideologies. Likewise, it notes the role of Al-Azhar's scholars who are actively engaged in tackling these issue through disseminating authentic Islamic teachings and rectifying misconceptions.
