The Muslim Council of Elders Pavilion at the Cairo International Book Fair 2024 presents to its visitors the book "Reflections on Religion and Culture," authored by Afifi Abdel Fattah, a scholar from Al-Azhar, as part of the publications of the Muslim Council of Elders. The book compiles seven articles by the author, published half a century ago, addressing pivotal issues in the Muslim world with detached objectivity and a clear Azhari methodology, relying on the infallible revelation—Quran and Sunnah.
In the first article, the author discusses the position of humans in existence between religion and science, exploring the advancements humanity has made in this vast universe and the values one should adopt in these discovered worlds. The second article delves into the relationship between religious history and science, engaging with some Western philosophers regarding the centrality of sin.
In the third article, the author discusses the dichotomy between adherence to tradition and innovation or the old and the new—an issue raised in the early 20th century that still resonates today. In the fourth article, he calls for working towards Islamic unity, echoing themes he addressed in the fifth article when responding to the Orientalist Montet in some of his writings.
The sixth article reflects on the manifestations of Allah's generosity and the merciful aspects of His revelations, while the seventh and final article addresses discussions about unseen matters, especially after modern scientific discoveries. The author critiques some books published in his time on this subject.
The Muslim Council of Elders' pavilion at the Cairo International Book Fair features a diverse collection of publications, along with a series of seminars, activities, and events focused on promoting the values of peace and mutual coexistence among all humanity.
The pavilion is located alongside the Al-Azhar pavilion in Hall 4 at the Egypt International Exhibition and Conference Center in the Fifth Settlement in Cairo.
