His Eminence Dr Ahmed El-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders has met with the UN Secretary-General's Special Adviser for the Prevention of Genocide, Adama Dieng. During the meeting the Grand Imam said, "Al-Azhar is keen to implement the values of tolerance and peace while appreciating the United Nations' efforts in supporting the Human Fraternity Document which in itself serves as a lifeline for current humanitarian crises."

For his part Adama Dieng commented, "The United Nations is preparing to ratify the 4th of February as the International Day of Human Fraternity to commemorate the anniversary of the signing of the Human Fraternity Document. The United Nations is equally keen to cooperate with Al-Azhar to protect humanity and its values. The Charter of Medina drafted by Islam's Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) represents a major reference point for all charters related to human rights."
