His Eminence Dr Ahmed El Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders has a met a delegation of African journalists and media representatives at Al-Azhar today. During the meeting, the Grand Imam said, "The media holds a massive responsibility to rise up and ease the burdens of violence and extremism in Africa through upholding journalists ethics and norms. Al-Azhar is currently home to over 5000 African students and actively trains African Imams to go with organizing a number of relief convoys for needy people in the continent."
For their part, the delegation of African journalists expressed their pride at their association with Al-Azhar and its moderate curricula while reiterating Al-Azhar's important role in combating extremism and spreading peace in Africa and around the world.
