The Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders, Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, met with Ramin Mammadov, Chairman of Azerbaijan's State Committee on Affairs with Religious Associations, in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The pair discussed ways to enhance mutual cooperation in various fields, primarily focusing on organizing the Global Faith Leaders Summit for Climate, which will be hosted by Azerbaijan, and the convening of the Faith Pavilion at COP29.
Judge Abdelsalam expressed his appreciation for Azerbaijan's exemplary model, led by H.E. President Ilham Aliyev, in supporting international initiatives aimed at promoting the values of tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and building bridges of communication and dialogue between religions. He noted that the Global Faith Leaders Summit for Climate and the Faith Pavilion at COP29, held in cooperation with COP29, will have a significant impact on achieving inclusivity in the conference agenda by providing a platform for intellectual, cultural, and religious exchange and dialogue.
For his part, Ramin Mammadov reiterated his country's commitment to developing constructive cooperation with the Islamic world and enhancing Islamic solidarity in various fields. He praised the strong relations between Azerbaijan and the Muslim Council of Elders and the council's pioneering role in establishing a culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence. He also highlighted the active role of religious leaders in addressing global challenges, particularly climate change, including the council's organization of the Global Faith Leaders Summit for Climate in Abu Dhabi last year and the Faith Pavilion at COP28, which was the first of its kind in the history of the Conference of the Parties.
