A Review of the Book "Al-Qawl Al-Tayeb" by His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders at the First Seminar of the Muslim Council of Elders' Booth at the Indonesia International Islamic Book Fair



As part of its activities at the Indonesia International Islamic Book Fair 2024, the Muslim Council of Elders' booth organized its first seminar titled: "A Review of the Book Al-Qawl Al-Tayeb" by His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders." The seminar featured presentations by Dr. Muhammad Zainul Majdi, Member of the Executive Office of the Muslim Council of Elders and Former ; Prof. Dr. Amany Lubis, President of Sharif Hidayatullah University and Member of the Indonesian Ulema Council; and Dr. Salahuddin Al-Shami, Member of the Heritage Revival Center at Al-Azhar. 


Dr. Muhammad Zain Al-Majid, member of the Executive Office of the Muslim Council of Elders and former Governor of Lombok Governor; Prof. Dr. Amani Lubis, President of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University and former member of the Indonesian Ulema Council; and Dr. Salahuddin Al-Shami, a member of the Manuscript Verification Center at Al-Azhar. The seminar was moderated by Dr. Mukhlis Hanafi, Director of the Muslim Council of Elders' branch in Indonesia.


During the well-attended seminar, Dr. Muhammad Zain Al-Majid highlighted that the book "Al-Qawl Al-Tayeb" reflects the efforts of His Eminence the Grand Imam, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, in promoting peace and spreading the values of tolerance and human coexistence. He emphasized that His Eminence firmly believes, following the example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), that the call to Islam flourishes in the context of peace. Constructive dialogue and mutual respect are the best means to convey the noble message of Islam.


The Member of the Executive Office of the Muslim Council of Elders emphasized that achieving peace is an urgent necessity. He pointed out that all the issues discussed in the book underscore the active role of His Eminence, Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb, in promoting peace based on justice and truth, with particular attention to marginalized and vulnerable groups, especially refugees. His Eminence places special emphasis on the rights of those who have lost their homes due to wars and refugees who have been forced to leave their countries, advocating for the defense of these individuals, including children and women. He also highlighted the significant support provided by Al-Azhar’s Grand Imam Prof. Al-Tayeb for the recognition of women's rights, particularly those who face discrimination and unequal treatment that does not align with their human dignity.


Dr. Amani Lubis, in her remarks, highlighted the great importance that the concept of peace holds in Grand Imam Al-Tayeb’s thought. She explained that His Eminence consistently calls for the enhancement of peace and the resolution of conflicts through peaceful means at both national and international forums. He also advocates for serious dialogue and the fight against Islamophobia. These visions are clearly reflected in the book "Al-Qawl Al-Tayeb," which demonstrates His Eminence's deep concern for contemporary issues.


Dr. Lubis further added that the book "Al-Qawl Al-Tayeb" addresses women's and family issues in a distinctive manner, shedding light on important aspects that affect society at large, and women and families in particular. She praised the strong and unwavering support that Grand Imam Al-Tayeb provides for the recognition of women's and children's rights, which is evident in his ongoing efforts to elevate their status in society and ensure their rights on various levels. She noted that the book also presents a comprehensive and advanced vision of His Eminence in many other areas, such as education and environmental issues. The book reflects his deep interest in developing the educational system in a way that strengthens human and moral values, alongside a commitment to the sustainability of environmental resources, embodying an integrated civilizational vision that balances religious values with the demands of the modern era.


The Muslim Council of Elders is participating for the third consecutive time with a special booth at the 22nd edition of the Indonesia International Islamic Book Fair 2024, held from August 14 to 18 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Council's participation stems from its mission to promote peace, foster the values of dialogue and tolerance, and build bridges of cooperation among people of different races and beliefs. The booth, located in JCC Hall A&B, features more than 220 publications in various languages, addressing key intellectual and cultural issues, aiming to correct misconceptions and spread enlightened, moderate thought.
