The Muslim Council of Elders reiterates its deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan

The Muslim Council of Elders once again expresses its deep concern over the worsening humanitarian conditions faced by the Sudanese people, which particularly affect vulnerable groups, especially the thousands of children who are suffering from a severe shortage of food and healthcare. According to United Nations reports, nearly five million children in Sudan have been forced to flee their homes, with an average of 10,000 boys and girls displaced daily, making Sudan the largest child displacement crisis in the world.

The Muslim Council of Elders calls for intensified international efforts to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe that could lead to famine and the deaths of millions of Sudanese people. The recent rains and floods in Sudan have already affected more than 11,000 people, including refugees and local communities in the eastern state of Kassala, resulting in further displacement, injuries, deaths, and disruptions to the delivery of humanitarian aid and relief. The Council urges immediate and urgent international intervention to provide the necessary assistance and funding to enhance relief operations in the most affected areas, which would save the lives of millions of innocent children in Sudan and alleviate their suffering.

The Muslim Council of Elders also commends the joint statement issued by the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, Switzerland, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the African Union, and the United Nations, which highlights the serious and intensive efforts of these parties to support Sudan, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, cease hostilities, and comply with the outcomes of the previous Jeddah talks, other initiatives, and international humanitarian law.
