His Eminence Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders has today met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto.
During the meeting, the Grand Imam said, "Al-Azhar's philosophy and endeavours are based upon cementing peaceful coexistence between people of different religious and cultural backgrounds. Al-Azhar's graduates are brought up to understand differences and diversity."
The Grand Imam added, "The Human Fraternity Document was based on the notion that religions are not connected to wars and conflicts but are often used as a facade for matters not related to religion whatsoever."
For his part, the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs said, "In Hungary, we are closely monitoring the astounding work of the Grand Imam in advancing dialogue and coexistence between the followers of different religions as well as the historic signing of the Human Fraternity Document with Pope Francis. My country rejects all forms of extremism and continuously strives to ensure that all our citizens live together in peace and harmony."
