During his meeting with the Grand Imam

His Eminence Dr Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders has met with the Vice President of the German Bundestag Thomas Oppermann in Cairo.

During the meeting, the Grand Imam stressed Al-Azhar’s efforts in promoting peace and coexistence among followers of different creeds around the world through citizenship and equality. His Eminence added that Muslims in Europe must realize that they are a real part of their societies, and that coexistence does not go against local laws or religious identities.

For his part, Mr Oppermann praised the Grand Imam’s vision for dialogue and peace between different religions and cultures. He also reaffirmed the German Bundestag’s willingness to learn more about the Grand Imam’s vision for major issues related to religious freedom and the integration of Muslim immigrants into German society.
