The Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam met Italy’s Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese in the Italian capital Rome. The pair discussed various cooperation opportunities including the integration of Muslim refugees in Europe while maintaining their religious identities as well as youth empowerment initiatives to achieve coexistence and human fraternity.
During the meeting, Judge Abdelsalam praised the Italian Interior Minister for her role in assisting refugees and migrants integrate into Italian Society by providing the necessary resources and job opportunities. The Judge reiterated that such measures, which promote coexistence and citizenship, are noble acts that are affirmed in the Document on Human Fraternity which was co-signed by the Chairman of the Muslim Councill of Elders His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and His Holiness Pope Francis under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates.
Judge Abdelsalm also briefed Lamorgese on the Muslim Council of Elders’ most prominent initiatives such as the ‘dialogue between East and West’, the Council’s peace convoys as well as the Emerging Peacemakers Forum.
