Under the Chairmanship of the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Muslim Council of Elders strongly condemns the statements issued by the official spokesperson the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in India which targeted Islam and Prophet Muhammed (PBUH).
The Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam said, “Such statements are a direct contradiction to the values of human fraternity and are deeply insensitive and disrespectful towards religions and their respective symbols. The Council will continue to work to counter all forms of hate-speech and extremism while promoting coexistence, peace and human fraternity.”
The Muslim Council of Elders thus strongly condemns such provocative statements which are deeply offensive to over 1.5 billion Muslims around the world. The Council calls on the international community to take strong action against such extremist rhetoric as well as hate-speech, terrorism and the incitement of conflict between followers of different religions.
