Muslim Council of Elders calls for concerted efforts to eradicate child labour

Under the Chairmanship of the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Muslim Council of Elders has stressed the importance of  providing adequate social protection to eradicate child labour by providing basic necessities such as education, food and a stable family environment.

On the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labour, the Council has warned against the exploitation of children through forced labour not appropriate for their ages. The Council stresses that such acts are serious transgressions which can have serious negative impact on the psychological and physical wellbeing of children while also robbing them of their childhood by putting them in at-risk situations.

The Muslim Council of Elders expresses its solidarity with children around the world who are forced into labour jobs due to poverty, ignorance and exploitation. The Council calls on the international community to intensify its efforts towards eradicating child labour globally.
