The Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam met Chairman of the African Union Commission Professor Moussa Faki Mahamat in Tangier, Morocco.
During the meeting, various topics were discussed including possible cooperation between the Council and the African Union Commission to promote peace and coexistence in Africa and beyond.
The meeting also discussed a number of the Muslim Council of Elders' initiatives in Africa including in the Central African Republic, as well as the possibility of integrating African youth into the Emerging Peacemakers Forum as well as the Council's peace convoys in the African continent.
The Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders expressed his gratitude towards Egypt and the Kingdom of Morocco for their respective roles in promoting cooperation and countering extremism and terrorism in Africa.
Likewise, the Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders and the Chairman of the African Union Commission both praised Al-Azhar's role in educating young African imams and encouraging students to be moderate role models in their communities.
They also emphasized the importance of continuing the mission of His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb and His Holiness Pope Francis, which began with the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity on February 4, 2019 in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi.
