Former President of Kazakhstan: We understand the Grand Imam’s value and truly treasure him


Grand Imam: You must be very proud of the history of your nation and its long service to Islam


His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders has met the former President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev at the Hazrat-Sultan Grand Mosque in the capital of Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan.


During the meeting, the former President of Kazakhstan expressed his joy at the Grand Imam’s visit to the Central Asian country. He remarked that such an occasion is something that many citizens had long waited for. He affirmed his nation’s deep appreciation of the Grand Imam and the collective understanding of his value and how the people of Kazakhstan treasure His Eminence. 


For his part, the Grand Imam thanked the former President of Kazakhstan for his long and tenured career serving his nation. He noted that this was the 4th meeting between the pair, stressing that such an occasion is slightly more special as it is taking place in the architectural wonder that is the Hazrat-Sultan Grand Mosque.


His Eminence added, “You must be very proud of the history of your nation and its long service to Islam. At Al-Azhar, we are fully-aware of this and the number of great scholars this nation has produced such as Abu Nasr Al-Farabi and many others. Such influential historical figures have indeed played a key role in connecting Kazakhstan to the rest of the Muslim world.”
