Secretary-General of the Council praises UAE for supporting and promoting peace, tolerance and human fraternity around the world

The Muslim Council of Elders' stand at the Arabic Book Fair in Istanbul has hosted a seminar titled ‘Respect and Human Fraternity’ with participation by the Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam as well as Dr. Samir Boudinar, the Executive Director of the Al-Hokama Center for Peace and Research. The seminar drew a large crowd from the fair’s visitors and was attended by a delegation from the United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Tolerance headed by H.E. Afra Al-Saberi, General Director of the Ministry of Tolerance.

During the seminar, Judge Abdelsalam praised the United Arab Emirates’ major role in supporting and promoting peace, tolerance and human fraternity around the world, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates. He also emphasized the collective responsibility all people have towards achieving coexistence and human fraternity while pointing to Islam’s major role in achieving human fraternity through its peaceful and tolerant teachings.

The Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders called on Muslims around the world to highlight true Islamic values to the rest of the world, something Abdelsalam described as a “moral duty”. He also noted the Document on Human Fraternity’s ability to unify people from all backgrounds in the face of different challenges currently facing humanity.

Judge Abdelsalam added that the Muslim Council of Elders under the Chairmanship of the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb is exerting serious efforts into achieving global peace, coexistence and tolerance around the world. He took the opportunity to the thank the delegation from the United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Tolerance for attending the seminar and for the Ministry's important role in reflecting the UAE’s vision of global peace through a number of important and effective initiatives.

H.E. Afra Al-Saberi, General Director of the Ministry of Tolerance and head of the UAE Ministry of Tolerance delegation at the seminar remarked that the UAE has fast-become a role-model in spreading tolerance on local and regional levels. These efforts, she added, are a continuation on the path set by the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (May Allah rest his soul) and that tolerance is a way of life for all the residents of the United Arab Emirates.

This is the Muslim Council of Elders’ first participation at the 7th Arabic Book Fair in Istanbul, which comes as part of His Eminence the Grand Imam’s vision of promoting dialogue and spreading tolerance and peace around the world. The event will be held from 1 to 9 October, at the Istanbul Expo Center (İFM), with the Council’s stand (B10) located in Hall 3.
