The Muslim Council of Elders has hosted a seminar titled ‘Document on Human Fraternity - A Christian Arab Reading’ by Dr. Assaad Kattan, Professor in Orthodox theology at Wilhelms-University at its stand in the Frankfurt Book Fair 2022.
During the seminar, Dr. Kattan described the Document on Human Fraternity, which was co-signed in 2019 by His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders alongside His Holiness Pope Francis, Pontiff of the Catholic Church, as one of the most prominent and rich Islamic-Christian documents produced in history.
Professor Kattan praised the Document for its ability to not solely justify the need for human fraternity, since its basis stems from the belief in God and that all humans are equal in the eyes of the creator. He also noted the Document’s brilliance for its insistence on promoting freedom as a basis of life, which allows for differences and pluralism. This he argues, is mentioned in the Holy Quran as Allah’s greatest purpose for mankind.
This is set to be the Council’s fourth participation at the Frankfurt Book Fair which run from 19 to 23 October 2022. The participation comes as part of the Council’s vision, under the Chairmanship of His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, of promoting dialogue and spreading tolerance and peace globally.
The Council’s stand at the Frankfurt Book Fair can be found in Hall 4.0, stand J22 at the Frankfurt Exhibition Grounds.
