With over 100 publications at 10 international book fairs - Muslim Council of Elders spreads tolerance globally in 2022

Under the chairmanship of His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and as part of the Muslim Council of Elders’ message of spreading the values of dialogue, tolerance and cooperation between people of all backgrounds, the Council has taken part in a total of 10 book fairs around the world. Participations include; Cairo, London, Abu Dhabi, Rabat, Jakarta, Istanbul, Frankfurt and Sharjah with over 100 publications that promote tolerance and coexistence.


The first participation in 2022 was in Cairo at the Cairo International Book Fair which was held in January with the Council’s stand hosting a large number of books as well as a series of lectures and seminars that focus on tolerance and coexistence at its participating stand.


Secondly, the Council participated at the Muscat International Book Fait in the capital of the Sultanate of Oman. The event hosted over 700 publishing houses from around the world as well as over 200 events of which the Council was an active participant. 


The Council then turned its attention to the London Book Fair with a participation that featured various foreign language books as well as a number of seminars. The event also saw the launch of the ‘Publish to Coexist’ initiative which seeks to promote books that discuss tolerance and coexistence. 


This was followed by participation at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair in May 2022, where the Council exhibited a number of new publications along with hosting a number of youth discussion circles.


In July, the Council participate at the Rabat International Publishing and Book Fair in July 2022 which hosted various seminars and talks by prominent figures who align with the Council’s vision and message. 


The following month, the Council took part at the Islamic Book Fair in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta. This was followed by the Arabic Book Fair in Istanbul which was held in September closely followed by the Frankfurt International Book Fair in October, which is considered the largest book fair in the world. 


The year was rounded off by participation at the Indonesia International Book Fair and the Sharjah Book Fair which were held in November. The Council managed to participate in three different continents with a number of valuable seminars and publications that spread the values of tolerance and human fraternity.


Over the 10 participations, the Council was able to address through its publications some of the most prominent issues facing society, such as; correcting misconceptions, combatting hate, racism and extremism and offering respective solutions as well as spreading peace and coexistence among humanity. 


Most prominent among the Council’s publications were; Al Qawl Al Tayeb’ and ‘Elements of Islam’ by His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders as well as ‘The Pope and the Grand Imam: A Thorny Path’ by the Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam along with ‘Fatwa and Responsibilities’ by Dr. Ahmed Mubid Abdulkareem as well as 'Love in the Holy Quran' by His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Mohammed Al Hashemi, member of the Muslim Council of Elders and ‘East and West: Do they meet?’ by Mohammed Arafah and ‘Religious Thought and Contemporary Issues’ by Dr. Mahmoud Hamdy Zaqzouq alongside other prominent publications in various languages.


The Council's stands at the 10 international book fairs also saw a large turnout from the general public and fair visitors as well as researchers and students.
