The Muslim Council of Elders’ stand at the Cairo International Book Fair has hosted the fifth seminar as part of its events program. Titled 'Islamic Heritage: Methods of Reading and Understanding', the seminar was presented by Dr. Ibrahim Awadh - Professor of Literary Criticism at Ain Shams University.
During the seminar, Dr. Awadh noted that scientific and natural subjects are also major parts of Islamic heritage, and without the contributions of Muslims to the world, Europe would not have reached its current level of development.
In addition, he called attention to the methods for assimilation and right interpretations of heritage, including conscious reading, knowledge of the sciences of grammar, morphology, and rhetoric, as well as specific scientific specialties, which are comparable to reading a map of heritage correctly.
In addition, he urged young people to read and learn at an early age so that they can protect their minds and subsequently use the knowledge acquired, stressing that thinking is essential to Islam because it is the religion of reason. As Islam is a civilized religion, as was Muhammad (PBUH), he underlined the necessity to concentrate on its civilized values.
The Council’s participation at the Cairo International Book Fair comes as part of His Eminence the Grand Imam’s vision of promoting dialogue and spreading tolerance and peace globally as well as building bridges of cooperation with people of all backgrounds. The Council’s participation at the Cairo International Book Fair is located in Hall 4 next to the Al-Azhar stand at the Egypt International Exhibition Center.
