His Eminence Dr Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders hosted Mr Muhammed Haque, Ambassador of Afghanistan to Egypt.

During the meeting, His Eminence stressed that focusing on education will raise awareness among young Afghans to counter extremist ideology, which is one of the biggest issues facing Afghanistan today.

For his part, the Ambassador of Afghanistan expressed his country’s aspirations to achieve stability and counter extremist thought from within. He also added that Al-Azhar’s moderate ideology and approach is the first line of resistance in the face of extremism and terrorism around the world.
