Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders Receives the Spiritual Leader of Muslims in Azerbaijan and the Caucasus


His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, received His Eminence Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh, member of the Muslim Council of Elders and the spiritual leader of Muslims in Azerbaijan and the Caucasus, today to discuss ways to enhance mutual cooperation.


During the meeting, the spiritual leader of Muslims in Azerbaijan and the Caucasus expressed his delight at meeting the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders and appreciated His Eminence's efforts in supporting the causes of the Islamic world and Muslim communities around the world. He also conveyed the greetings of President Ilham Aliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, along with his wishes for His Eminence's continued health and well-being along with his appreciation for the role of the Grand Imam in presenting the true image of Islam and refuting the misconceptions propagated by extremist groups.


Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh also extended an official invitation to the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, to visit Azerbaijan before congratulating His Eminence on the opening of the Muslim Council of Elders' regional branch in Kazakhstan and expressing his delight at being present for the branch's inauguration. His Eminence also emphasized the important role this regional office will play in serving the Muslims of Central Asia and strengthening relations with religious institutions in the continent. He further expressed Azerbaijan's readiness to intensify cooperation with Al-Azhar through the exchange of scholars, researchers, and students.


For his part, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, expressed his appreciation for the President of Azerbaijan and thanked him for his kind message. He also appreciated the invitation from His Eminence Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh to visit Azerbaijan, affirming Al-Azhar and the Muslim Council of Elders' commitment to strengthening relations with Azerbaijan, while focusing on issues of coexistence and debunking extremist ideologies.
