Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders Receives a Delegation from the World Evangelical Alliance and Discusses Ways to Enhance Mutual Cooperation in Spreading the Values and Principles of Human Fraternity



The Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders, Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, received Rev. Samuel E. Chiang, the Deputy Secretary-General for Ministries of the World Evangelical Alliance, and an accompanying delegation at the council's headquarters in Abu Dhabi. During the meeting, the pair discussed ways to enhance mutual cooperation in promoting the values and principles of human fraternity, as well as mechanisms to activate the role of religious leaders and unify their efforts in addressing the climate crisis, and exploring avenues to support and empower youth.


During the meeting, Judge Abdelsalam emphasized the council's belief in the importance of building bridges of communication and dialogue among all religions, sects, and religious denominations. He commended the constructive partnership between the Muslim Council of Elders and the World Evangelical Alliance. He explained that the upcoming period would see further collaboration in confirming the role of religious leaders and symbols in facing global challenges, particularly the climate crisis, and enhancing the role of youth in solidifying the values of fraternity and coexistence.


Rev. Samuel E. Chiang, the Deputy Secretary-General for Ministries of the World Evangelical Alliance, praised the efforts of the Muslim Council of Elders, under the chairmanship of His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, in promoting dialogue between religions by building bridges of communication and combating hate speech, racism, and discrimination. He affirmed that the world needs such efforts, especially in the present time, facing numerous challenges that threaten its stability and security. He also expressed the World Evangelical Alliance's anticipation of further collaboration with the Muslim Council of Elders in spreading the values of human fraternity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
