Muslim Council of Elders hosts seminar on poetry at the Cairo International Book Fair 2023

The ninth seminar by the Muslim Council of Elders at the Cairo International Book Fair took place at the Council’s stand at the Egypt International Exhibition Center. The seminar was titled ‘My Experience with Arabic Poetry’ and presented by Dr. Alaa Ganib, Dean of Department of Arabic Language at Al-Azhar University and recipient of the Emir of Poets prize in 2013.

The seminar covered the scientific and educational background of Dr. Alaa Ganib as well as the impact of family and environment on his upbringing. Ganib also spoke of how Al-Azhar embraced his poetic talent and shaped his personality while highlighting the fact that he owes Al-Azhar everything he learned about Arabic and Islamic sciences and morals.

Ganib remarked that poetry is not restricted to one subject and reflects the soul, heart, and feelings of the poet; otherwise, it would be an affectation. He claimed that the majority of the themes in his poems center on praising the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which is an expression of love for the man who altered the course of history. Additionally, he addresses national, social, and Islamic cultural themes in his poems.

Additionally, the poet delivered two poems. The first, named "Al Maqam," praising the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Isra and Mi'raj. His passion for Al-Azhar is the subject of the second poem, "The Tremblers in the City."

In addition, Ganib mentioned that the Muslim Council of Elders' stand at the Cairo International Book Fair drew a lot of Egyptians, Arabs, and even Muslims from around the world because of its distinguished literary, educational, and cultural activities.

The Council’s participation at the Cairo International Book Fair comes as part of His Eminence the Grand Imam’s vision of promoting dialogue and spreading tolerance and peace globally as well as building bridges of cooperation with people of all backgrounds. The Council’s participation at the Cairo International Book Fair is located in Hall 4 next to the Al-Azhar stand at the Egypt International Exhibition Center.
