Former Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation
His Excellency Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu
He is a Turkish academic and diplomat, a member of the Turkish Parliament, and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. He served as the 9th Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) from 2004 to 2013. He was the founding Director General of the Research Center for Islamic History, Art, and Culture (IRCICA) in Istanbul, a position he held for 25 years, and was the first professor and founding head of the Department of History of Science at Istanbul University.
He holds a BA from Ain Shams University and an MA from Al-Azhar University. He has taught and lectured at prestigious universities in Europe and the United States, and has published numerous books, articles, and research papers in various languages on science, the history of science, and relations between the Islamic world and the West. He has been honored with medals from kings and presidents and has received honorary doctorates from several universities worldwide.
