Grand Mufti of Egypt
His Eminence Prof. Dr. Shawki Allam
His Eminence Prof. Dr. Shawki Allam is a Professor of Fiqh at the Faculty of Sharia and Law, Al-Azhar University in Tanta and has been the Grand Mufti of the Arab Republic of Egypt since March 4, 2013. He earned his PhD in Fiqh from the Faculty of Sharia and Law in Cairo in 1996 with first-class honors. He served as the Head of the Fiqh and its Principles Department at the Institute of Sharia Sciences in the Sultanate of Oman from 2007 to 2010. He has been a Professor in the Fiqh Department at the Faculty of Sharia and Law in Tanta since September 28, 2011, and he became the Head of the same department on January 8, 2012, before he was appointed the new Grand Mufti of Egypt on March 3, 2013.
