His Excellency Mahmoud Abbas
His Excellency Mahmoud Abbas was born on November 15, 1935, in the city of Safed in northern Palestine. He obtained a PhD in Moscow with a dissertation titled ‘The Secret Relationship Between Nazism and Zionism’. His national political career began in the mid-1950s and he has held numerous political positions, including: Member of the Fatah Central Committee (FCC) since 1964, Secretary-General of Fatah in 2004, Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) from 1996 to 2004, Chairman of the Jordanian-Palestinian Joint Committee from 1979 to 1981, the first Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority in 2003, and was elected President of the Palestinian National Authority in 2005.
