Secretary-General of the International Islamic Fiqh Academy, former Minister of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Sites, and former President of Al al-Bayt University, Jordan
His Excellency Prof. Dr. Abdul Salam Dawood Al-Abbadi
Born in Amman, Jordan, in 1943, Prof. Dr. Abdul Salam Dawood Al-Abbadi earned his PhD in Comparative Fiqh from the Faculty of Sharia and Law at Al-Azhar University in 1972. He served as the Minister of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Sites from 1993 to 2001, and then again in 2005 for approximately a year. He resumed the role during the periods from 2009 to 2011, October 2011 to April 2012, May 2012 to October 2012, then October 2012 to March 2013. Dr. Al-Abbadi served as the Secretary-General of the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization from 1990 to 2008, President of the Board of Trustees of Al al-Bayt University from 2001 to 2004, President of the same university from 2004 to 2005 and again from 2006 to 2008, and also as Advisor on Islamic and Religious Affairs from 2006 until his resignation in 2009. He was appointed as the Secretary-General of the Islamic Fiqh Academy in March 2008, a position he held until December 2009, and he was re-elected in October 2015, remaining in office until his death in August 2020.
