Egypt’s Minister of Education
His Excellency Dr. Tarek Shawki
Dr. Tarek Shawki serves as Egypt’s Minister of Education, Technical Education, and Vocational Training, and is a professor of Mechanical Engineering at the American University in Cairo, where he also served as the Dean of the School of Sciences and Engineering (SSE). He holds a Master’s and a PhD in Engineering Sciences, and a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics from Brown University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Cairo University. He was appointed by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi as the Secretary-General of the Presidential Advisory Council. Additionally, he has served as the Director of the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science in the Arab States and held the position of Chief of the ICTs in the Education, Science, and Culture section at the Information Society Division of UNESCO in Paris, France.
