Ambassador Moushira Khattab


Her Excellency Ambassador Moushira Khattab holds a PhD in International Humanitarian Law from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University. She served as Egypt’s Ambassador to the Czech and Slovak Republics from 1992 to 1994 and served as Egypt’s first Ambassador to South Africa from 1994 to 1999. She was appointed Minister of State for Family and Population under Prime Ministers Ahmed Nazif and Ahmed Shafik and served as Secretary-General of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood from 1999 to 2009. 
Since 2011, she has been a Visiting Professor on Human Rights and Gender Issues at Università di Stranieri di Perugia (The University of Foreigners of Perugia) in Italy. Her Excellency Moushira Khattab is a board member of the International ‘Women in Diplomacy (WID) Committee’ founded by the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2013, and served as Vice President of the International Bureau for Children's Rights (IBCR) in Montreal, Canada, from 2005 to 2011. She has also been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Egyptian Radio and Television Union and chaired the Family and Child Committee from 2000 to 2009. In 2016, Egypt nominated her for the position of Director-General of UNESCO.
