Professor Antoine Messarra
He served as a member of the Constitutional Council in Lebanon from 2009 to 2019 and currently chairs the UNESCO Chair for Comparative Religions, Mediation, and Dialogue at Saint Joseph University. He is a founding member of both the Lebanese Foundation for Permanent Civil Peace (in collaboration with the UNDP) and the Joseph and Laure Moghaizel Foundation Award for Civil Peace and Human Rights (established in 1997). He is also part of the Advisory Board of the Anna Lindh Foundation.
In addition to his legal and academic roles, he has worked extensively as a journalist, contributing to *Le Jour*, *L’Orient-Le Jour*, and other newspapers. He serves on the management committee of the Diploma of Higher Studies/Master's program, which is a collaborative effort in Francophone journalism involving the Lebanese University, the French Institute of Journalism (IFP) in Paris, and the Institute for Training and Qualification of Journalists (CFPJ) in Paris.
He received the President Elias Hrawi Prize for the "Lebanon Pact" in 2007, along with various other awards and honors. His publications cover subjects such as the Lebanese constitutional system, democracy, legislation, and the judiciary.
Academically, he holds a doctorate and a third-cycle doctorate from the University of Human Sciences in Strasbourg, along with a bachelor’s degree and postgraduate diploma in sociology, as well as a bachelor’s degree and postgraduate diploma in law from Saint Joseph University in Beirut. He is a professor at both the Lebanese University and Saint Joseph University in Beirut, and has served as a visiting professor at universities in Germany, Italy, Canada, and Switzerland.
