His Excellency Prof. Dr. Koutoubou Mustapha Sano


Professor Dr. Koutoubou Mustapha Sano is a member of the Muslim Council of Elders, Minister of Religious Affairs, Minister of International Cooperation, and former Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the Republic of Guinea. He is also Advisor to the Ministry of Finance in Mauritius regarding Islamic finance in the Mauritius Islands, and the Editor-in-Chief of the peer-reviewed scientific journal, Unity of the Islamic Ummah, in Malaysia. Additionally, he is the Vice Chancellor for Foreign Relations and Innovations at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). 
He has authored twenty-five books in Arabic, English, and French on comparative Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), the principles of Fiqh, Islamic finance, education, and language. He composed the first encyclopedia on the terminologies of Hajj and Umrah for the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the first dictionary of Fiqh terms in both Arabic and English at Dar Al-Fikr in Damascus, Syrian Arab Republic. He has published more than fifty articles in peer-reviewed international scientific journals. His Excellency was honored with the ‘Datuk’ award by the former King of Malaysia, in recognition of his outstanding services to the Malaysian people generally, and to the education sector specifically. He has received the Quality and Excellence Award from the Islamic University of Malaysia for the years 2000 and 2002, and the Doha Arabic Book Award in its inaugural session in 2024.
