His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders has today met Indonesia’s Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas.

During the meeting, Minister Qoumas conveyed the greetings and appreciation of the President of Indonesia Joko Widodo to the Grand Imam for his efforts in promoting true Islamic teachings as well as spreading global peace and human fraternity. Qoumas also passed on President Widodo’s invitation to the Grand Imam to visit Indonesia for the opening of the first ‘Jurisprudence of Civilization’ conference to be held in south-east Asian nation in February 2023.

For his part, the Grand Imam expressed his gratitude for President of Indonesia’s invitation whilst noting the long and historic relationship between Al-Azhar and the Muslim Council of Elders with the Republic of Indonesia. His Eminence also pointed to the important role that Indonesian students at Al-Azhar as well as Al-Azhar missions within Indonesia have in cementing this historic relationship.
