Global Faith Leaders Summit on Climate Action

Under the gracious patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, the Muslim Council of Elders, in partnership with the COP28 Presidency, the UAE Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence, and the United Nations Environment Programme, hosted the Global Faith Leaders Summit on Climate Action. The event brought together a diverse group of representatives from major world religions, leading environmental scientists, academics, influential youth activists, prominent women leaders, indigenous voices, and key figures from the private sector. The summit's goal was to leverage the collective wisdom and influence of religious leaders to raise awareness about climate change, instill a sense of responsibility and urgency among governments, institutions, and individuals, and accelerate efforts toward achieving climate justice.

The summit featured keynote addresses from several prominent religious leaders, including His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and President of the Muslim Council of Elders; His Holiness Pope Francis, Pontiff of the Catholic Church; the Most Reverend Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury; UN Secretary-General António Guterres; and H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, President of COP28, as well as several high-level representatives from the fields of science, academia, business, and other sectors. The Global Faith Leaders Summit on Climate Action brought together nearly 35 senior religious leaders, representing more than 25 different faiths.
