She obtained her Master’s degree in Islamic History and Civilization in 1993, then her PhD in Islamic Political History in 2002. She was appointed as the Vice Dean of the College of Islamic and Arabic Studies for Public Administration Affairs at the State Islamic University of Syarif Hidayatullah in Jakarta from 2003 to 2009, Executive Director of the Southeast Asia Office of the Association of Islamic Universities since 2004, and Director of the Arabic Language Center in the cooperative program between the university and Imam Muhammad ibn Saud University in Riyadh from 2005-2008. Since 2016, she has served as the Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council for Women, Youth and Family Affairs, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies in Abu Dhabi since 2016. She has been a member of the World Council of Muslim Women Scholars of the International Islamic Women's Union, Indonesian Branch, since 2003, and is currently the Chairperson of the Council of Ulemas and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Union for Indonesia, and Deputy Secretary-General of the Experts Authority of the Indonesian Intellectuals Union since 2005, Head of Dawah and Communication Affairs at the Middle East Graduates Association, and a member of the Advisory Board of the World Organization of Al-Azhar Graduates.
