Dr. Jane McAuliffe
.Jane McAuliffe is a senior fellow at the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace & World Affairs at Georgetown University. Her previous positions include inaugural Director of National and International Outreach at the Library of Congress, President of Bryn Mawr College, Dean of Arts and Sciences at Georgetown University, and Professor at the University of Toronto and Emory University. McAuliffe has written extensively on Islam and the Qur’an. Her books include “Qur’anic Christians” (Cambridge University Press, 1991); “Abbasid Authority Affirmed” (State University of New York Press, 1995); “With Reverence for the Word” (Oxford University Press, 2002); “Encyclopaedia of the Qur’an” (Brill, 6 volumes and online, 2006); “Cambridge Companion to the Qur’an” (Cambridge University Press, 2006); “Norton Anthology of World Religions: Islam” (W.W. Norton, 2015); and “The Qur’an: A Norton Critical Edition” (W.W. Norton, 2017). Oxford recently published her book for general audiences entitled “The Qur’an, What Everyone Needs to Know”(Oxford University Press, 2020). Her work has been supported by the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Bellagio Center of the Rockefeller Foundation (forthcoming). McAuliffe has been the recipient of seven honorary degrees and has served on the boards of the American Council on Education, the Woodrow Wilson Center, and the International Qur’anic Studies Association. She is past president of the American Academy of Religion, a member of the American Philosophical Society, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Council on Foreign Relations, and the Union Européenne des Arabisants et Islamisants.
