He holds a Doctorate in Biblical Sciences from the Pontifical Biblical Commission in Rome (1984). He is a Professor of New Testament Studies at the Faculty of Theology of Catalonia in Barcelona, where he has also served as Dean since 2006. He was President of the *Association of New Testament Scholars* from 2011 to 2012.
On June 5, 2023, Pope Francis appointed him as the new President of the *Agency for the Evaluation and Promotion of Quality in Ecclesiastical Faculties*. He has authored two books and over one hundred articles on the New Testament, including *Bible Translations in the Middle Ages* and *Sagrada Familia in Barcelona*, which explores the theological aspects of its architecture. His other works include the book *Jesus: An Uncommon Journey*, and articles such as *The Risen Body of Christ as a Cosmic and Mystical Body*.
