Under the gracious patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and in the presence of His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and President of the Muslim Council of Elders, as well as His Holiness Pope Francis, Pontiff of the Catholic Church, alongside numerous prominent religious leaders and thinkers from around the world, the Bahrain Dialogue Forum was held in Manama on November 3 and 4, 2022. The forum convened under the theme: ‘East and West for Human Coexistence’.

The conference was dedicated to cultivating an Arab media ethos committed to its humanitarian responsibilities, focusing on building intellectual awareness and combating hatred, extremism, and discrimination. The sessions covered several critical topics, including hatred in the Arab media and strategies for its eradication, the portrayal of Arabs in Western media, the dynamics of hate speech on social media, and means to address and contain the ‘hate pandemic’, which coincided with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, discussions delved into the impact of legal frameworks and media codes, and the role of official and unionized media institutions in tackling hate speech.

The gathering sought to embed the concept of human fraternity as a lived and tangible reality within global civilization. It also aimed to establish a unified charter, with the Muslim Council of Elders serving as the organizing body for this significant event.
His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and President of the Muslim Council of Elders, has long championed the principles of dialogue, tolerance, fraternity, and peace. He provided the world with a tangible example of these humanitarian values through the creation of the ‘Egyptian Family House’, which brings Muslims and Christians together under one banner to safeguard national unity. His Eminence’s unwavering advocacy for coexistence, tolerance, and fraternity has resonated across many countries.
Al-Azhar International Conference Center, Cairo, Egypt
In partnership with Al-Azhar and the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, the Muslim Council of Elders organized an international symposium titled ‘Islam and the West: Diversity and Integration’, held in Cairo from October 22 to 24, 2018. The event was attended by His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and President of the Muslim Council of Elders, along with distinguished intellectuals and public figures from Europe and Asia, and prominent religious, political, and thought leaders, as well as former heads of state and government from around the world. The symposium also featured leading scholars specializing in the relationship between Islam and the West, including Islamic scholars from Western countries.
The Muslim Council of Elders, in collaboration with Al-Azhar, organized the International Conference in Support of Jerusalem, held in Cairo on January 17 and 18, 2018.

The global conference aimed to unite around shared human principles that foster peace among people of different religions, beliefs, races, and ethnicities. It called for the collaboration of religious leaders and scholars, intellectual and cultural figures, policymakers, and international institutions to work together to achieve a lasting, just peace. The discussions centered around four key themes: the misinterpretation of religious texts and its impact on global peace, the relationship between poverty and disease on the one hand and deprivation and exploitation on the other hand, and its impact on peace, the culture of peace as promoted by religions, and the challenges to achieving peace in today’s world.
